Falmouth Spring Festival

The most colourful and vibrant Spring Festival yet, has drawn to a close:

·  20,000 daffodils distributed throughout the town!

·  100 volunteers giving up time to Spring Clean numerous areas including a lovely gardening job at Dell Woods

·  5,000 revellers at the Cider & Folk Fayre

·  500 runners for Run Falmouth, raising thousands of pounds for Cornwall Hospice Care in the process

·  Scores enjoying themed guided walks over the fortnight

·  Dawn French in the middle of it, who gave us great praise for re-enacting the Paint The Town Yellow Day for her as part of the historic procession

Thank you to Jacqui Owen at Gyllyngdune Gardens in particular, as well as all the organisations and volunteers who gave up time to support the efforts.

We're delighted to announce an amazing new festival for ‪#‎Falmouth‬ for 2015! 

ZestiFAL will celebrate Falmouth's active lifestyle with an incredible array of have a go sports and activities.

Falmouth Spring Festival

Falmouth Spring Festival schedule is taking shape rather nicely.

The festival brings an explosion of early colour, life and activity to the town. Paint the Town Yellow Day sees thousands of daffodils being donated to hundreds of businesses by the school-children of Falmouth, Run Falmouth is the town’s annual half-marathon running event in partnership with Cornwall Hospice Care while the two-day Folk & Cider Fayre will bring great food, drink and music to Events Square.

Government Visit

The Falmouth Town Team hosted a visit on Wednesday 15TH October, by a senior team from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) who came down to Cornwall to review the active BID scene that exists here. There are seven Business Improvement Districts now operating in towns and areas of Cornwall, representing and supporting over 3,500 businesses - the highest number of BIDS in any one local authority area in the UK, outside of London. There are over 180 BIDs in the UK.

The visit is part of a UK-wide tour of BID towns and cities and will inform a report to be submitted to Government at a later date, on the UK high street and BIDs, highlighting areas of good practice as well as challenges to growth.

The Town Team for Falmouth (Falmouth Business Improvement District working together with Falmouth Town Management) has been operational for five years and is the only such public-private partnership in Cornwall. The Town Team is the management resource for Falmouth, delivering the town’s major festivals, destination marketing campaigns, public realm improvements, business training and more.

The visit follows on from a week in which Southend BID visited the Town Team to look at the Falmouth partnership model and contact made by Belfast City Council who are also looking at the Town Team partnership idea.

SPLASH 2014

We have another lovely little activity as part of SPLASH called the Face of Falmouth. Head to the new North 55 Gallery on Church St during SPLASH week & contribute to a community-led picture! The finished painting will then be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the RNLI

Falmouth's event of the decade!

Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta 2014, what an event!

Over 200,000 visitors filled the streets, over 40 tall ships in the Docks and marina. Street theatre, dancing, live music, fireworks, access to the ships and all FREE! hundreds of volunteers and organisations came together to put on, as only Falmouth can, the most memorable of events.

Falmouth Tall Ships - the main event!

28-31 August

It's nearly here, 7 days and counting until the biggest event Cornwall will see in a while, hits Falmouth! This is it, the big one.

46 tall ships including 1 A class vessels will provide a wonderful backdrop for Falmouth for 4 days. In addition to the fantastic sights on the water, a wide array of superb shore-side activities have been planned - fireworks, digital displays, live music at multiple venues, crew parade, street theatre and dance, funfairs, giant helter skelter you name it's happening!

Falmouth Week around the corner

With Falmouth Week just around the corner, it's about time we pointed you in the right direction to get all the lowdown on what's going on. 

A great shoreside events programme that includes the Red Arrows, Animal bike display team, Science in the Square, Music on The Moor, Events Square sessions including Toyah Willcox and East 17, aligned with some spectacular sailing will make this one of the best years ever!

Haul away, heave away!

Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival kicks off tomorrow, the next fantastic festival organised for the town! Its grown over the last 10 years to become to one of the biggest maritime music concerts in Europe! 

The town will be filled with music, singing and infused with a great community spirit. The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is held at multiple venues throughout the town with main stages being Custom House Quay, Events Square (Discovery Quay) and The Moor.

There are confirmed 48 Shanty groups, 21 venues and 261 hours of shanty singing (that's 46 more hours than last year!)

It's the first #Parklive of the year this weekend! #Falmouth#Cornwall. It's free, cool and buzzy so get on down to Kimberley Park!!

Games on The Moor

The schedule for the Games on the Moor 2014 which was held most recently during the Falmouth Spring Festival can be viewed here – GAMES ON THE MOOR. Hugely positive feedback was received and this will be the first of a number of themed frequent activity taking place on The Moor and throughout the town.

More clean ups

Its great news that following on from the very successful Spring Clean Days during Falmouth Spring Festival, we are now organising follow-on sessions. Falmouth Fire Brigade will be continuing the landscaping at the Dell Station shortly and we are planning more clean ups and painting with other volunteers to shelters, fencing etc along Cliff Rd. We as BID are currently looking at establishing a more regular and active Volunteer Group that will work alongside other organisations to revitalise and transform areas throughout the year. Spring Festival middle weekend

A great middle weekend of activity brought a real buzz to Falmouth with the two day Cider & Folk Fayre, Fitness on The Moor, Games on The Moor, guided walks around town, model boat exhibition at NMMC and Shadow Puppet Theatre at Gyllyngdune Gardens.

Title Sponsor of Falmouth Spring Festival 2014 unveiled

Princess Pavilion & Gyllyngdune Gardens, part of the award-winning charity Tempus Leisure, has been announced as the title sponsor of the fourth Falmouth Spring Festival. Tempus Leisure also operates Ships & Castles Leisure Centre in Falmouth, and a further 14 other leisure centres across Cornwall. 

Funded and organised by the Falmouth BID, the Falmouth Spring Festival is the first main festival on the Falmouth events calendar, an early season idea designed to raise Falmouth’s profile and help town businesses. It celebrates Falmouth’s open spaces through a host of music, dance, sporting events, walks and ‘spring clean’ activities that take place at numerous venues both indoor and outdoor, across the town. 

The Festival also has a strong community ethos with schools, volunteer groups and charities all 
involved and working in partnership with the Falmouth BID to celebrate Falmouth’s special coastal environment and historic town centre in as many innovative ways as possible. This is exemplified by the Paint the Town Yellow Day, that involves all six of the town’s schools, 7,000 daffodils, Falmouth University students and around 100 businesses working together to design colourful, spring themed shop front displays to brighten up the town at the start of Spring Festival week. 

Several new exciting activities are planned for 2014 and a full schedule and Guide will follow shortly but Festival highlights include: 

Thurs 13 March Paint the Town Yellow Day 
Fri 14 & Sat 15 March Falmouth Spring Clean Days 
Sun 16 March Run Falmouth Half-Marathon 
Sat 23- Sun 24 March Cider & Folk Fayre 

Spring Clean Day will, thanks to volunteer support, be spread over two days and include beach 
cleans, landscaping, flower planting, rubbish removal and a host more activity. Run Falmouth will once again be organised in partnership with Cornwall Hospice Care and the Falmouth Spring flower Show will take on a nautical theme to celebrate the Tall Ships visiting later in the year. A new activity Walking on Sunshine, a family-orientated sponsored walk, will take place in conjunction with Mabe School.

BID Renewal

Thank you to the hundreds of businesses who took the time

to vote during the recent BID renewal ballot. As you will read in the local media this week, BID will continue investing in the town for the next five years following a huge majority of businesses voting in favour of it continuing. 87% of voting businesses voted YES, representing the strongest by far for any BID in the region and it’s great that Falmouth has so many proactive businesses committed to working together with the Town Team to support the town. Julian Graves site

As has been mentioned, the Town Team has been on the front foot to revamp the vacant Julian Graves site with Christmas and Tall Ships imagery and messages. An image is attached.

Dementia Action

• The Falmouth Dementia Action Alliance will be outside M&S on Saturday December 7th, from 10 - 4pm with information about awareness of dementia, and also will be promoting the forthcoming performance of the highly acclaimed  play 'Grandma Remember Me'. • The theatre company is presenting a performance of 'Grandma Remember Me' at the Houses of Parliament just before ours, following a countrywide tour.

Falmouth Christmas
The Christmas promotional literature and window posters will be delivered to town businesses over the next couple of days. Many of you will have seen Christmas posters in numerous bus shelters in the area and this will be combined with a strong push via 5,000 promotional fliers, local media editorial and online marketing. Please link on your respective websites to www.falmouth.co.uk so that visitors, customers and contacts are aware of the activities being planned.

Small Business Saturday
This national initiative, which aims to promote and highlight small businesses across the UK will be taking place on Sat 7^th Dec, one of the busiest shopping days of the year (first Sat in Dec of course). To find out more and to get involved look here – SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY.
